Balance & the Shed: A Key Combination for Success.

The instinctual act of a "heading" breed like the border collie is to hold the sheep to the handler. In previous blog posts, we explored how balance plays a crucial role in various aspects of dog training.

Today, I will exemplify how balance can aid you and your dog in the shedding process.

Shedding involves separating a group of sheep, such as taking three of them out for training or dividing the larger flock to fit them into a small enclosure.

When you need to single out a specific ewe for inspection or treatment, you use the "singling" technique.

Although I won't delve into the specifics of shedding, I will illustrate how balance can help you prep for the shed. I always look for opportunities to improve my working relationship with my dog and this is one such time!
